THE CROSS AND TOWER HOUSE

The Cross and Tower House is sited at the edge of Lake Mizell, part of a unique chain of six connected lakes in Winter Park, Florida. A small charming 1930s cottage, a Greek cross in plan, was renovated and expanded, including a second floor living space open to a large covered deck overlooking the lake. The formal challenge of adding to the cross-shaped house was resolved by the addition of an independent tower in one of the empty quadrants. The tower houses a master bathroom on the ground floor, connected to the cottage and a second floor guest room and bathroom, reached only by an external stair. The house is in a dense grove of 100 year old grand oaks and magnolia trees that provides welcome shade and reflects the beautiful green tones of the surrounding native flora on the white stucco walls inside and outside of the house.
