SULLIVAN STREET BAKERY

New York, NY

Jim Lahey is one of the most renowned bakers in the world. At this Chelsea outpost of his Sullivan Street Bakery, natural materials - vertical grain pine, white Carrara marble countertops, terracotta wall tile, raw concrete stained with burnt umber undertones - accompany the sights and intoxicating aromas of, and take inspiration from, the refined craft of Jim's artisan bread making. Under a bright canopy of exposed, white-painted steel beams, the complementary functions of bakery, sandwich shop, cafe and bar are encapsulated in a single, open space, naturally lit during the daytime with an expansively glazed Ninth Avenue storefront and windows opening directly into the kitchen.
