STUDIO PHILOSOPHY

Guzy Architects has been making good architecture for over thirty years.

We believe in the essential dialogue between our places and spaces, how they engage, inspire and enrich the lives of many people.

Guzy Architects questions conventions and seeks new models through a disciplined, concept-driven process that explores and advances in unexpected ways the collective qualities of light, volume, surface, material, procession, and ceremony.

We are passionate about understanding each unique site and forging a meaningful sense of place. Respect for the land, respect for our cities, and respect for new ways of making our environment a better and longer lasting place are fundamental ideals we hold constant and true. The good architecture we make should be of its time and endure by adapting to a changing world.

We engage the full spectrum of architecture, landscape, design, furniture, art, and urban design, producing unique and resonant works together with our deeply valued collaborators. Ours is not a voice of one but of many - our clients, our architects and designers, and our professional and artisan team members, with whom we share the joy of creating architecture with purpose and delight.

TEAM

Peter Guzy, AIA, founding principal and practicing architect in New York City is engaged in all aspects of studio projects - working directly with clients, collaborating with members of Guzy Architects and skilled consultants, to establish design concepts and project direction, exploring new material applications and innovative details, engage with construction administration, and insure that a consistent level of excellence is maintained through the completion and success of each project. Peter is inspired in his work, with the study and contemplation of the world in which we live, through understanding of culture, literature, art, architecture, cities, music, the natural world, and individuals - how they react, interact with the five senses, and respond to different environments. Peter received his Bachelor of Architecture from Cornell University and was awarded the Eidlitz Fellowship, that was completed in residence at the American Academy in Rome. Peter taught architectural design and theory for three years at the Eidgenossische Techninische Hochschule (ETH) in Zurich, Switzerland, and subsequently led his architectural practice in Zurich for eight years prior to returning to New York. Peter Guzy was previously a founding partner and principal of Asfour Guzy Architects in New York City. Peter regularly participates on juries at various schools of architecture, and has served as a member of the James Beard Foundation Design Committee and the Architectural Advisory Committee and for the Village Historical District Advisory Committee for the Town of Ridgefield, CT.
